In the spring of 2004, British Esquire commissioned Lee to photograph an 'up and coming hip-hop artist' by the name of Kanye West.
It seems hard to belive but in 2004, Kanye was relatively un-known in the UK and Esquire featured an interview with him over 4-5 pages.
Lee remembers 'Kanye had an air of authority, confident in his manner and a belief he was destined for great things in music and life'.
The shoot took place in a rental apartment house in South London. Originally captured using 5x4 160NC Kodak Portra Film on a Linhof Technika. The original negative was scanned and the image only now lives in digital form.
NFT comprising of a high res JPEG + Limited Edition DIgital Print available on Opensea using the Polygon blockchain.
